... no, not the one from the 1970s.
We've got another feature film debut at Rambling Cinema in March - this time from rapper and performer Baloji, taking inspiration from the death of his father to tell a haunting personal story about identity, superstition and belonging. Join us at Carousel on Tuesday 3rd March at 7pm for our first Congolese film - OMEN!
After spending years in Belgium, a young Congolese man returns to his birthplace of Kinshasa to confront the intricacies of his family and culture, taking his white pregnant girlfriend with him. As he struggles to overcome being disowned by his mother in childhood over superstitious accusations, the traditions of his home continue to haunt him as he attempts to reconcile his identity.
Maybe the most visually stunning film we've shown so far, this is a beautiful and hypnotic piece of magical realism, as well as an insightful critique of the Imperialist extraction of Congolese resources. Beyond that, it's a universal story: the nightmare of having to introduce your new partner to your family!
As always, tickets are pay-what-you-feel (you can get your ticket here), and stick around afterwards for a drink and a chat about the film.
See you all soon!
