Trip Summary

The plan is to climb four of the NH 4,000 footers - Moriah (#41 @ 4,049'), Middle Carter (#15 @ 4,610'), South Carter (#19 @ 4,430'), and Carter Dome (#9 @ 4,832'). We will also hit the summits of North Carter and Hight along the way. The route up to Moriah involves climbing over several false summits but you are rewarded with great views of the northern portion of the White Mountain National Forest. As we go south we will clmib to spots with dramatic, close-up views of the Presidential Range. We will use the Carter-Moriah, Carter Dome, and Nineteen Mile Brook Trails to traverse the ridge from north to south. We will not be going to the AMC's Carter Notch Hut.

This trip is being offered to the Random Group of Hikers and the AMC's Boston Chapter. All particpants will be required to sign the AMC's Liability Release - to preview a copy of this docuement click here (http://files.meetup.com/492954/AMC%20Liability%20Release.pdf).

On this moderate pace (~2.0 MPH) out and back we will hike about 17.7 miles and climb about 6,800 feet. It should take an average hiker about 12 hours 15 minutes to complete this trip. This event is considered to be ADVANCED because of the pace, distance, and elevation gain. We could alter our plans because of fatigue, weather, and/or other conditions and there is no guarantee that we will complete the entire event as described here (i.e. we might not reach the summit).

We start as a group, hike as a group, and finish as a group. Our pace will be that of the slowest hiker. This trip isn't for you if you are faster than the group and don't want to stay with us, if you want to head off on your own, or if you are slower than the group and expect us to constantly wait for you.

Guests are not permitted - all participants must be members of the group.

Dogs are permitted - bring a leash and a copy of their most recent rabies vaccination.

I did my research using the Appalachian Mountain Club's "White Mountain Guide", a trail map, and the Internet. You need to become self-reliant by learning about the route and potential hazards since you are ultimately responsible for your own safety.
