Old Winchester Hill tear up

Details

Hi Chaps!

So its hike time again! hurrah.

Hike Overview:

  • Well we start from Corhampton and look to hit 2 close hills - 'Old Winchester Hill' and 'Beacon Hill'. Old Winchester is one of the highest points in Hampshire - so there can be great views that can even encompass the Isle of Wight (incredible, I know).

  • And If you have a history or culture head, then there's also the (somewhat hidden) remnants of an iron age fort.... and for Hampshire there's actually a bit of a roll to the countryside! hurrah.

Rapid Hiking:

  • So just to expand on the 'about' section, this is roughly what you might expect from a Rapid Hike....
  1. Challenge. If you looking for Hiking + challenge or Hiking + exercise, you may have come to the right place.
  • So we're looking to 'push the envelope', and increase the tempo, so you have a more intense hike.

  • Perhaps unsurprisingly then, this involves walking briskly/fast-ish/fast and throwing in jogs and runs to keep it interesting! and more intense.

  • But it's not a 'mono-intensity' hike - so the intensity will vary over the circuit - we don't plough around at the same speed; some 'stages' or sections will be more and less intense than others (the first one, I would imagine, will be rather more intense than the one after lunch...)

  • There'll of course always be pit stops for water, gazing etc and obviously the essential lunch halt.

  1. Features. We try and have some 'features' in - hence the nice hills and fort, which give something of a focus and direction to things (as well as of course some interest).

  2. Fun! This isn't the Very Serious Hike Group in disguise! Sure it'd be good to blast some 'stages' and see how quickly we can get around, but hopefully keeping things pretty light.

Admin:

Boring but important!

  1. Time? Probably want to allow 4-5 hours.

  2. Requirements? Maybe helpful if you've hiked before, but probably it's much more about fitness and having a bit of it.....

  3. Kit? usual hiking gear, plus extra fluids would probably be helpful. (any Qs - just let me know!)

  4. Getting there? I'm in Lymington at the moment, so if you're anywhere, very roughly en route, and need a lift - then give me a shout!

  5. legal bit? please see below...

Of course, any questions, queries or comments regarding any of this - let me know! Cheers, Tom.

Legal Bit: We may not be jumping out of helicopters or underwater knife fighting, but there are potentially serious risks involved with hiking - as such:

This group is an informal walking group where members arrange to meet up for a walk with the aid of a 'walk leader' or 'organiser' in an informal manner (as if a group of friends were going for a walk). The group does not have insurance and all members attending an event do so entirely at their own risk. The event organiser/walk leader accepts no responsibility/liability for any member during an event.

It is the responsibility of an member to ensure they are in good health to complete the event and to make it known to the walk leader/organiser during the event if they start to experience difficulties and require assistance.

(again, any questions - just let me know! Cheers)
