Rural Plains is a historic farm that is now included within the Richmond National Battlefield Park. It’s in Mechanicsville with parking and access off VA 606/Studley Rd. (best to use GPS that leads to the location reliably). The habitat includes farm fields, meadows, wooded areas, and a swamp. We will walk along the trail for about 2.5 miles (round trip) looking for sparrows, woodpeckers, raptors, and various overwintering species.

RAS trips are open to all, RAS membership is encouraged but not required, and unless the trip says otherwise, you don't need to sign up. Please feel free to stay for as long as you want. Attendees do not need to stay the entire time listed.
