Talk 1:
Simon Sturmer, Software Engineer
What React Native can learn from Flutter
This talk is about some key takeaways from using Flutter after years of React Native development. We'll discuss the strengths and weaknesses of both frameworks, as well as dive into the things Flutter brings to the table that React Native could learn from, both the core RN experience and the ecosystem around it, including Expo.
About Simon:
Simon is a software engineer with a passion for building immersive UIs for mobile and web. Simon has worked as a front-end engineer at Facebook and at Google and currently runs a software development agency specializing in React Native.
Talk 2:
Harry Tormey, Lead engineer at Coinbase Pro mobile
Coinbase Pro mobile architecture deep dive
Trading crypto currencies such as Bitcoin professionally can require visualizing vast amounts of data in the form of candle charts, depth charts, and order books.
These UI components must all be displayed simultaneously and kept up to date in real-time using web sockets. To add to this challenge, many of these components must dynamically respond to user gestures such as panning and long presses.
Presenting all of this data in a compact, performant, mobile-friendly format presents a number of interesting technical challenges. In this talk I will dig into these challenges and present strategies for overcoming them using React Native.
About Harry:
Harry is the lead engineer on the Coinbase Pro mobile project. Harry has worked as a mobile engineer at Facebook and at Apple and currently leads the Pro Mobile team at Coinbase doing React Native development.
Lightning Talk:
Hannah Jin, Frontend Developer at Coinbase
Gesture-Driven Animation with React Native
Gesture driven controls feel natural and intuitive to us because they resemble interacting with a real object. Once discovered and learned by a user they can become a delightful part of the user experience and reduce the number of steps needed to perform an action.
However, implementing performant gesture-driven animations with React Native can present some unique engineering challenges. In this talk, we will look at how to use react-native-gesture-handler's declarative API to overcome these issues and build amazing gesture-driven animations in your next app.
About Hannah:
Hannah is an experienced frontend developer who is passionate about building intuitive user experiences that make modern financial products open and easy for everyone to use. Prior to working at Coinbase Hannah spent several years at Robinhood working on their web app.
