What we’re about
This is a group for those who love the classical and medieval literature and the Latin language in particular. We will select one or two short texts per week and have a meeting for each text.
Depending on the needs of participants, we may do a pre-reading exercise to focus on the grammatical level of the text before diving right in and reading together as well as discussing the theme and any other aspect of the text we find of interest.
No Latin knowledge is necessary to participate, since we will look at and even compare English translations. I am open to offering some instruction for those who would like to learn or increase their knowledge, but our overall focus will be on the texts. If you are in the process of learning or brushing up on your Latin reading, I will offer as much helpful background on the text as I can prior to the meeting.
In terms of which texts we read, I would like to do at least one classical text and one medieval or neo-Latin text per week, as I have a strong interest in all of it. I'm also open to feedback from participants as to what you all would like to read.
