NYC Charity Footie Tournament - Players WANTED !

From: Elena P.
Sent on: Wednesday, August 4, 2010 9:26 PM
Hey Everybody:

We have been asked to represent our pe?a and submit a team for Real Madrid NYC to a charity futbol tournament sponsored by the Downtown United Soccer Club (www.dusc.net). The tournament takes place on Saturday August 28th. We played last year and it was a lot of fun, but we need more players and we need to do better. Last year the tournament raised over $5,000 for children in the city to play and learn about futbol.

Our team will be in a group of 4 and the top two teams go through to the semi-finals. It will be 8 vs 8 (1 goalie and 7 field players) and games will be on a half pitch and last 20 minutes, with no breaks.

We would need about 10-15 players to be competitive. There are unlimited subs in each game and we need subs to keep pace with the other teams.

There is also a team entry fee, which is $350, which with a 10-person team would obviously only be $35/player.

We need to know ASAP (by the end of this weekend) who wants to join our team and represent the Pe?a Madridista NYC. We are looking for 10-15 players and all skill levels are welcome.

We will be practicing about 1 to 2 times per week (mid week and weekend) until the tournament, so we need people that are committed and we need to make sure everyone is playing in their preferred position.

So please, if you have are interested forward this e-mail with your name, and cell number to the team captains (Cesar and Bobbito) at

Other supporter teams in the tournament include Liverpool, Man U, Celtic, etc., we need to beat these guys and show them who we are. Practice will start tomorrow!

?Hala Madrid!

Hello and greetings from LFCNY!

LFCNY and Downtown United Soccer Club has a little proposition for you. On August 28, 2010, DUSC is organizing a supporters club tournament for the Downtown United Soccer Club Scholarship Program (www.dusc.net) at Pier 40. As part of their 'City Initiative Program' DUSC raises money and works with economically disadvantaged kids providing them with pitch-time, training/coaching, and football gear. No child should be denied the opportunity to play football in New York City for economic reasons and LFCNY has been working to help them with their objectives.

LFCNY first worked with DUSC with the help of the Big Apple Bears Supporters Club in 2008 with a friendly that raised over $5000.00. In 2009, the format was expanded to an 8-team tournament which again raised over $[masked] even on short notice. The New York Red Bulls donated a $[masked] with the help of the Empire Supporters Club which was a sensational gesture from the MLS club. Beside the charitable benefits of the event, we at LFCNY believe this is a great opportunity to help build the supporters club network in New York City and forge new relations and connections in the ever growing football support in the city and help this event grow each year.

The format at the moment will be 8-a-side with unlimited players per team. Even if your team has a certain name, we ask that if possible that you represent an offical football club to keep in the spirit of the Supporter's Club theme. Details of the tournament so far:

Date of Event: August 28, 2010 with the first group matches kicking off at 9:00 am at Pier 40 New York, New York.
Captain?s meeting on August 3, 2010 at Mr. Dennehy's Irish Pub & Restaurant with the $350.00 entry fee will be used as a donation for DUSC and to confirm participation. Please have cash or make checks payable to Downtown United Soccer Club.
Tournament format will be groups and then knockouts. We would like to try to have at least 16 teams this year to be split in four 4-team groups with the top two going straight to the quarterfinals.
Current Champions: LFCNY

If your Supporter's Club is interested in participating, we will also send out some literature and weblinks so you may request from your respective clubs various items to be donated for the silent auction to be held at Mr. Dennehy's for the post-tournament festivities. Liverpool Football Club donated a squad signed jersey that raised $460 alone with Rangers Football Club donating a signed DeMarcus Beasley shirt that helped tremendously with the 2008 raffle. With your help we can raise some much needed funds for the kids in the name of your club and together as New Yorkers.

These are the possible entries for the 2010 tournament as of today:

Newcastle United New York
LFCNY - Liverpool FC
New York Whites - Leeds United FC
Manchester United New York
Empire Supporters Club - NY Red Bulls
Cardiff City NY/Mr. Dennehy's
Mr. Dennehy's Team II
Mr. Dennehy's Team III

Big Apple Bears - Rangers FC
Stoke City Supporters Club
MCFC OSC - Manchester City FC
Zum Schnieder FC

Olympique Marseille New York

Please let me know if you are interested in participating AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so that we may streamline the planning of this event. If the team captain/manager cannot make it to the meeting on August 3, 2010, please send a representative as it will be easier to facilitate the rules, answer questions, and meet everyone with a nice round of drinks. LFCNY and DUSC is looking forward to a great tournament and we really look forward to working with your club to help make this project uniquely New York's own!
