Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail - 14 miles

Details

Here is an opportunity to ride part of the Columbia River Gorge historic highway.

This a great bike ride on a paved bike trail. It is hiller than other rides we have been on (forest park not withstanding). The views of the Columbia river, water falls, creeks, and the lot are well worth the effort of this ride.

We will travel this paved path from from Cascade Locks west. Most of this trail was the old Columbia River Highway that was build in 1916. We will see some of the original stone work.

The hills are all worth the effort as you will be rewarded by the forest spectacular beauty. We start at the Bridge of the gods and go under I-84 through a tunnel. Then past that is Ruckel Creek with cascading series of waterfalls. Just after that is the Eagle Creek Fish Hatchery. There is a stair case we will have to negotiate each way but there are grooves to guide the wheels. We can ride to Elowah Falls.

We have lots of other options for the ride and we can check them out as we go. That is why i didn’t put an ending time that makes any sense. Besides, with 24% Chance of rain, most may want the whole five minutes to decide whether to ride or not, eh?

After the ride we will hit Tunder Island Brewing or the other brewery on the main drag. We will decide when we return to the bridge of the gods.

See ya on the trail....
