Come join our open ocean kayaking adventure from Redondo Beach King Harbor. Our trips are roughly 3 - 4 hours of paddling. At the end of our kayaking there is an option of getting together for lunch at a local restaurant.

We often go about 2 miles off shore in search of whales and dolphins and other sea life if weather permits. Other weeks we follow the coastline to the kelp forest along Palos Verdes. We move at a moderate pace staying together as a group. Those that become too tired paddling out that far can return to the dock or may choose to stop while still looking for sea life. For safety we recommended that inexperienced kayakers not be left alone when outside the harbor.

We launch our kayaks from the hand launch dock at King Harbor in Redondo Beach which is located behind Ruby's Restaurant. We can pull our cars right up to the ramp for unloading. We unload our kayaks at 8:00 AM and paddle away from the dock at about 8:15 AM.

Parking cost is $2 per hour in the lot at Ruby's Diner which comes to $10 for the 5 hours we are often at the harbor including set up time. The parking fee will include a service charge if paying by credit card.

The kayak rental shop at King Harbor in Redondo Beach changed ownership at the end of 2019. All attendees will now need to provide their own kayaks. This is an unfortunate event for the group and we are monitoring for future kayak rental opportunities for meetup attendees.

Bad weather will cancel the event. Check the comment section on Saturday evening for any updates to the Sunday kayaking plan.

If you haven't been out kayaking with this group you probably have some questions and concerns. We are a friendly and inclusive group of recreational kayak enthusiasts that love to share our passion for kayaking. Post any questions you may have in the comment section below and one of the event organizers or friendly group members will respond.

We also have a Facebook group Redondo Beach Ocean Kayaking where you can see additional photos, videos, exchange info, and have questions answered.

Disclaimer: Many new kayakers suffer from sea sickness and fail to enjoy their time on the water. We will be kayaking in the open ocean with sea swells and boat wakes. You should check the ocean weather forecast before going and only attend if you are comfortable in the expected ocean conditions. Some medications or natural remedies may help prevent sea sickness. Ask in the comment section below if you want recommendations.

By joining this event YOU are responsible for your conduct and safety and agree to free the event organizer any other organizers and agents associated with the club and this website from any and all liability. You are NOT participating in an event organized by trained outdoors people or medical professionals.

Kayaking Safety: Everyone should be able to "self rescue" in the open ocean. This means that if you should capsize in your kayak you should be able to get back into your kayak and return to shore in weather conditions we are likely to experience. Those that are unable to self rescue may be prohibited from joining the event.
