About us
I have noticed a rise in attacks on Asians in the Bay Area. In this period of insecurity where Chinese are being targeted for violence and because of the rise in crime due to cuts in public security; I would like to start a group to teach self-defense techniques to beginners and others who might have an interest in learning how to defend themselves in these confusing times.
As an American Born Chinese raised in Fresno, I never felt I belonged and was bullied as a teen. I found it hard to ever speak up for myself and just stayed silent while being put down or watching others being bullied. This led me to pursue martial arts. My background had spanned 50 years starting with Karate and ending with Ju Jitsu at the age of 60. I believe my training in Tai Chi, Ba Gua Zhang, and Ju Jitsu has really helped me with my inner strength and confidence and allowed me to continue to function in an effective way in my 60s. As evidence, two years ago, I defended myself and my daughter from a sexual predator on a public bus in New York City. I would like to pass on what I have learned from my teachers to those beginners that want to learn a practical and effective way to defend yourself both stand-up and on the ground. It also improves your health and stamina. I have prepared a written list of all the effective techniques I have learned over the years which I will share with members. I would also appreciate help from other “internal” marital artists to assist me and help me teach and improve my skills as well. I plan to teach Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am at the wooden sign in Marlin Park in beautiful Redwood Shores. I will announce which days I will teach so members can sign up. My goal is to help others explore various martial arts so that they can find themselves both mentally and physically and reach their own potential and hopefully save someone from a violent attack. My first class will be April 4, 2026. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the training.
