Crippen Regional Park - Invasive Plant Removal at Davies Creek!

Details

Come help remove invasive plant species at Crippen Regional Park!

We will be doing maintenance at a restoration site around a salmonid-rearing pond located at the mouth of Davies Creek. This pond was built in 2010 to support juvenile salmonid survival during the winter. In 2024, invasive plants were removed along the edges of the pond and were replaced with mulch and native plant species. Along with young salmon, this small pond now provides habitat for a diversity of other species, including red-legged frogs, birds, and aquatic insects.

Join us as we remove re-emerging invasive plants, such as Himalayan blackberry and common burdock, in an effort to restore biodiversity to this valuable riparian ecosystem!

Where: Davies Creek, Crippen Regional Park, Bowen Island
What: Invasive plant removal
When: Saturday, July 12, 2025
Time: 11:15AM - 12:45PM

We will provide you with all the information and tools needed for the work we will be doing. This includes eye protection and gloves, although if people prefer to use their own gloves they are welcome to do so. Please arrive dressed for the weather (rain or shine), in clothing that can get dirty, with appropriate footwear. Please bring water bottles and a snack if you tend to get hungry while working. We will provide light snacks and water for refilling water bottles.

A few things to note about the site:
• The site is a 5-minute walk from the Snug Cove Ferry Terminal. There is also a free parking lot near our meeting place.
• Those taking a ferry can board the 10:35AM sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Bowen Island and board the 1:55PM sailing off-island (or stay and enjoy a Saturday on Bowen Island!).
• The site is in a public area, be mindful or sharp or hazardous litter.
• There is a washroom near our meeting place. The worksite is a 2-minute walk from the washroom.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns prior to the event.
