Reportedly, Jacob Coxon left Anthropic because there was a 10% chance that AI would be the end of humanity. His former coworker Evan Hubinger agreed with him. Sam Altman and Dario Amodei both agree that AI development needs to slow down.
The purpose of this group is not necessarily to put a complete stop to AI, but rather prevent it from proceeding in ways that are needlessly harmful to groups of people big or small.
Unfortunately, it is naive to expect politicians to know what and how to regulate AI. So, my objective with this group is to facilitate a conversation about that. What should be regulated in relation to AI and why? And, what's we've figured that out, how to we push that forward? How do we act on it? This is in order to insure that it improves the quality of life of the common person rather than leave them behind as an afterthought. Or do something stupid... like end our existence.
