The Rise of Choicetech | Love in the Time of Dating Apps

Dating apps don’t just change who we meet, they change how we decide.
This session is part of Love in the Time of Dating Apps, a multi-part series exploring modern dating through the lens of decision-making in the Information Age. Each session stands on its own, but together they offer a deeper framework for understanding why choosing can feel so draining, confusing, or effortful today.

About This Session
As uncertainty has become a defining condition of modern life, we’ve increasingly turned to technology to help us manage both information and choice. Choicetech refers to tools and systems designed to structure decision-making under conditions of complexity and uncertainty, by filtering, ranking, pacing, and framing information so choices feel more manageable.
This session explores the rise of choicetech as both a response to and a driver of the Information Age. Using dating apps as a familiar, concrete example, we’ll look at how these systems shape what we see, what we ignore, what feels meaningful, and how quickly we’re pushed to decide. Rather than framing dating apps as “good” or “bad,” the focus is on understanding how choicetech influences perception, evaluation, and timing.
This is not a dating advice talk. There are no scripts, hacks, or promised outcomes. Instead, it’s an educational, reflective conversation about the systems we’re dating inside and what changes when we can finally see them more clearly.
