About us

Resume workshops are free and all are welcome. The purpose is to inspire and energize participants by introducing insights and expertise that expand possibilities to showcase strengths, talents, and capabilities within the resume format. Attendees will leave eager to apply new ideas and with greater confidence in taking next steps toward preparing a resume that engages reviewers and leads to more interviews. The leader is an expert in preparing resumes, cover letters, and related presentations. The format is informal to allow sharing tips and reactions among people in the group. Attendees' resumes are critiqued at the workshops as time allows. Reviewing resumes as a group demonstrates ideas ranging from novel to traditional that may be adopted to strengthen participants' career change searching.

Being proactive and doing a few things right will give you an advantage in a complex job market. At this workshop you will learn tips to head in the right direction and move efficiently through the steps of your job search. Is your resume laser-focused on your purpose, message, and the mindset of reviewers? Can you compete more effectively by doing more research? Have you equipped your resume with key words and content relevant to the job posting? Are you using tools, training opportunities, and resources that can make a difference? Are your work samples top notch? Have you sharpened your interviewing skills? Are your stories of achievement ready and at the tip of your tongue? This workshop is an opportunity to ask questions and learn best practices. Attendees are encouraged to enrich our discussion by sharing their questions, dilemmas, and tips.
Let's inspire and strengthen each other with our insights. The themes that drive resume effectiveness include showing your strengths, emphasizing problems you can solve, and highlighting your potential to add value. You will learn to include challenges you have met and accomplishments that have achieved goals. Attendees typically raise questions about handling work gaps and transitioning to a new industry, new level, new job function, new degree/certification, and more.

Your chances of success improve when you become informed. Advice you have assumed to be true may not be valid. And valid advice may not have reached you yet. We will explore a dozen checkpoints that can damage your job search efforts or reduce your resume effectiveness. You will learn why applying to jobs at a lower skill level is unlikely to produce the results you'd like. Our discussion will cover why "transferable" skills are often not the hoped-for bridge to entering a new industry or job role, as well as several critical reasons why you need to adhere to a few formatting rules to pass through the digital screening of online resume submission. A downloadable pdf article of the 12 ways you may be sabotaging your job search will be available. We will adapt our discussion to include additional aspects of resumes and job searching of interest to workshop attendees.
