About us
Resume workshops are free and all are welcome. The purpose is to inspire and energize participants by introducing insights and expertise that expand possibilities to showcase strengths, talents, and capabilities within the resume format. Attendees will leave eager to apply new ideas and with greater confidence in taking next steps toward preparing a resume that engages reviewers and leads to more interviews. The leader is an expert in preparing resumes, cover letters, and related presentations. The format is informal to allow sharing tips and reactions among people in the group. Attendees' resumes are critiqued at the workshops as time allows. Reviewing resumes as a group demonstrates ideas ranging from novel to traditional that may be adopted to strengthen participants' career change searching.

The puzzle many job seekers face is a jumble of job titles and organizational restructuring. Then add a confusing mix of employer changes as they attempt to navigate a change. Varying rates of adopting new processes quickly result in an enigmatic workplace. Using case examples we will follow the straightest, least bumpy routes to identify ways to pursue job opportunities, which (hooray!) lead to action plans for meeting your goals. From this vantage point we will transform vague job categories into specific functions and roles and move deeper into identifying up-to-date and searchable job titles. Along our route we will consider research into industries and career levels (early-mid-advanced). We will help sort through the dilemmas of resume decisions as we share insights and techniques that will improve your chances of successful job searching. Plan to add your own ideas and ask questions as we work through issues.Let's inspire and strengthen each other with our insights. The themes that drive resume effectiveness include showing your strengths, emphasizing problems you can solve, and highlighting your potential to add value. You will learn to include challenges you have met and accomplishments that have achieved goals. Attendees typically raise questions about handling work gaps and transitioning to a new industry, new level, new job function, new degree/certification, and more.

Does Your Resume Engage Your Readers?

We will examine alternatives to designing the first third of your resume page including ways to (1) Announce your position of interest, (2) Become more relevant to requirements of the job posing, (3) Feature the strongest claims related to your effectiveness, (4) Explicitly share skills that qualify you based on the job postings, (5) Avoid sabotaging your chances by using a narrative paragraph near the beginning of your resume. And saving the best for last! You will learn to customize your resume to each job application by swapping the key words and phrases in and out to support your strengths for multiple job postings. We will demonstrate your options and show variations specific to industries, job roles, and seniority levels from entry-to-advanced.
