Hike Description

Are you ready to be miserable, and like it? If "Yes", you will enjoy this hike.

Mt. Misery is located in Pachaug State Forest, in Voluntown, CT. For a hill with a 441-foot elevation, the summit offers a nice view of the surrounding area. We will be hiking in the towns of Griswold and Voluntown. The distance of this hike is about 6 miles, which will take around 3 hours. We will be walking on forest paths, horse trails, and dirt roads. Much of the hike is on relatively flat terrain, except for the ascent and descent of Mt. Misery which is steep in spots.

As always bring sufficient water (1.5-liter min) and snacks along for the hike in some type of backpack or waistpack. You should also bring bug spray. A pair of hiking boots is the suggested footwear.

Directions: From the Rt 49 main entrance follow the entrance road for about 1.5 miles, bearing left at both forks in the road. You will see a large open field shortly after the second fork, near the Rhododendron Sanctuary. Park along the edge of the field. The map pin is in the right spot. Navigate to it if you can, or at least take a look where it is.
