Description:
Are you ready to be miserable, and like it? If "Yes", you will enjoy this hike.
Mt. Misery is located in Pachaug State Forest, in Voluntown, CT. For a hill with a 441-foot elevation, the summit offers a nice view of the surrounding area. We will be hiking in the towns of Griswold and Voluntown. The distance of this hike is about 9 miles, which will take about 4 hours. We will be walking on forest paths and dirt roads. Much of the hike is on relatively flat terrain, except for the ascent and descent of Mt. Misery which is steep in spots.
As always bring sufficient water (1.5-liter min) and snacks along for the hike. A pair of hiking boots is the suggested footwear.
Directions: The map link near the top of this page will bring you to the parking area. From Rt 49 take the forest entrance road for about 1.5 miles, bearing left at both forks in the road that you come to. You will see a large open field shortly after the second fork, which is across from the Rhododendron Sanctuary. Park along the edge of the open field.
