Block Island - Greenway Trails to the South Coast and back - about 9 miles

We'll go on a 9+ mile walk to the beach at the south end of beautiful Block Island following greenway trails there and back. Expect beautiful ocean vistas. We will do no beach walking on this hike.

This is not a walk for beginners or for those who want a leisurely stroll in the woods. To qualify, you must have completed a 8+ mile walk in the last month and be in excellent physical condition. This walk is for hardy hikers, not first timers or novice hikers.

Note that the route of the hike involves walking on paved town roads with light traffic for roughly 2 .5+ miles. Taxis are available for those who run out of steam.

We'll take the 8:00 am ferry out and the 3 or 5 pm boat back. The ferry takes about an hour to reach the island.

You can purchase non refundable ferry tickets online or in person at the ticket office in Narragansett. Leave plenty of time to both park your car and to purchase tickets. Parking rates vary from parking lot to parking lot.

We'll meet on the top deck of the ferry towards the front, on the starboard or right side of the boat. The ferry leaves promptly at 8 am. Tickets often sell out especially when the weather is fine.

Wear comfortable hiking boots or shoes. Bring plenty of water because there's none where we're going. Don't forget to bring food.
