Block Island - North Coast Beach Hike - 10 miles

Details

Read the entire writeup below.

Join me this coming Sunday as we hike on the beach on north end of beautiful Block Island. From the ferry we'll follow Crescent Beach north to Clay Head Bluffs. From there we'll make our way along the top of the bluffs to Sandy Point. If we're lucky we'll see seals hauled out of the water at the Point. We'll then head south along the west side of the island, eventually crossing over to Crescent Beach and head back to Old Harbor for ice cream and the ferry home.

We'll travel 10 miles. There's little shade on this route so wear a wide brimmed hat and smear plenty of sun block on exposed areas of your skin. This hike is only for the hardiest hikers, and not a walk for first timers.

We'll take the 8 am ferry out and return on the 3:00 pm or 5:00 pm boat.

Bring food. And plenty of water since none is available once we leave Old Harbor.

We'll stop along the way to eat and go swimming.

Leave plenty of time to park your car and purchase ferry tickets. You can also buy tickets online.

We'll meet on the top deck of the ferry towards the front end of the boat on the starboard or right side of the boat. The ferry leaves promptly at 8 am.

Wear comfortable hiking boots or shoes.

Tickets often sell out, especially when the weather is fine. Get to the ticket office early.

If you are interested in carpooling to the ferry from Stop&Shop in in Narragansett, send me a Meetup message and maybe we can arrange it.
