Description:

This is a double loop shaped hike in the Green Falls Pond area of Pachaug State Forest. The Green Falls Pond area is located in Voluntown, CT. One loop consists of parts of the Pachaug and Nehantic Trails plus their connector trail. The other loop mainly consists of the Green Falls Pond Loop Trail plus a walk through the gorge pictured above.

You can find a trail map here: Green Falls Map

Requirements are a good pair of hiking boots or shoes, a backpack, drinking water (1.5 liters min), and snacks. You may also need bug spray and sunscreen. The trails are mostly single-track trails with lots of rocks and roots. Some trail sections will be muddy or overgrown with vegetation. There are some short steep sections, but much of the hike is fairly flat. Expect about a 2 mph pace.

Directions from the North: At the junction of Rte 165 & Rte 138 take Rt 138 E. In 1 mile, take a right onto Green Falls Rd at the sign for Pachaug Forest. Follow the road until you come to the "T" intersection and turn left on Green Falls Road. Drive about 1.5 miles to the parking area near the beach.

Directions from the South: At the junction of Rt 3 and Rt 138 take Rt 138 W for 7.5 miles. Take a left onto Green Falls Road (at the Pachaug sign) and proceed as above. Google Maps (and others) may try to send you on a different section of Green Falls Road, but that is restricted usage and gated.
