ID VERIFICATION ON DATING SITES AND THE IMPLICATIONS FOR USERS

What is the study about?
This small-scale research project looks at the viability of using ID verification on dating sites to protect users against criminal activities such as romance fraud. There are numerous ID verification methods that can be used to confirm that the person creating an account is alive and is the actual person shown on the account.
Romance fraud is a financially and emotionally devastating crime for those targeted. Identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice is a difficult task so prevention and education is essential.
The project aims to look how the implementation of an ID verification method on a site will impact on the user’s awareness and vulnerability to romance fraud targeting.

What will happen if I agree to take part in this research?
As an individual in the dating or socialising community, your participation in this study will be greatly appreciated and will give importance and validity to its findings. You will be asked to complete a short anonymous survey.
The results of the study can be made available to you on request.

How long will the survey take?
The more information you provide the more beneficial it will be to achieve the aims of the study. However, some questions will not apply to you. We anticipate the survey will take approximately between 10 to 20 minutes to complete.

What are the risks associated with taking part in the research?
There are no risks anticipated with taking part in this study. Any information collected within the study will remain anonymous and therefore your answers will not be identifiable to you.

What are the benefits of taking part in the research?
The main purpose of this study is to inform for developments of a safer environment for you and others when using online dating sites by providing insight for optimal security measures to be applied.

How will we ensure any personal information used during the research is kept confidential?
The survey will be anonymous. Some demographic information will be requested such as age bracket, gender, and broad location (country mainly).
To collect the data anonymously the survey has been created on an external site and will be accessible through a link. There will be no requirement to supply any personal identifying data. All data will be held in a secure location, on a password protected secure system that can only be accessed by the researcher.

Can I withdraw from the study?
You are under the no obligation to submit the survey once you start it. You will be asked at the start of the survey to enter a short code. You can use this code to withdraw your survey from the research up until the deadline date provided, which will be when analysis begins. If you are concerned once submitted that you have revealed identifiable information, be assured that any such information will be permanently deleted and not used in any analysis or subsequent reporting.

This live tribute band has been delighting audiences since 2010 and promises to be one of the most authentic sounding Queen bands. Come and re-live the magic and excitement of a live Queen concert spanning many of the greatest hits from the 1970s.

The wonderful Hampton Pools summer evenings are back.

These are lovely evenings held in the grounds of Hampton Pools. Bring a picnic and blanket. Chairs are allowed but (I think) have to sit further back.
