Cold Harbor Battle 160th Anniversary Event
Details
Another opportunity to go back in time with your camera! The Battle of Cold Habor was fought during the American Civil War near Mechanicsville from May 31 to June 12, 1864, with the most significant fighting occurring on June 3. It was one of the final battles of Union Lt. Gen. Grant's overland campaign and is remembered as one of American history's most unnecessary and lopsided battles. Thousands of Union soldiers were killed or wounded in a hopeless frontal assault against the fortified positions of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's army. Cold Harbor was Lee's last large-scale victory; however, it was a turning point in the war where the Confederacy saw little chance in overall victory.
This event will commemorate the 160th anniversary since the battle with reenactors and wartime activity.
Meet General Grant, talk to Union and Confederate soldiers, witness battle tactical demonstrations, and take a special walking tour. This year we have a free shuttle to get visitors around the battlefield.
This should be an excellent event for photographers. Lots of great opportunities for capturing unique historic looking shots.
