N&W 611

The iconic Norfolk & Western J-class 611 steam locomotive returns to the Buckingham Branch rails in western Virginia this fall. The route will again be a round-trip between Goshen and Staunton.

We will leave from the Oilville Park & Ride, located at Exit 167 off of I-64, at 9:50 AM and carpool to the first viewing location where Scott-Christian Road crosses the tracks. There is room for only 3 or 4 vehicles at the crossing.

After the train passes the crossing, we will continue to BG's Family Restaurant in Craigsville for lunch. We will be able to see the train from the restaurant as it passes on its way to Goshen.

After lunch, we will drive to Goshen to photograph the train at the station before its afternoon journey back to Staunton. We will photograph it as it backs from the station and switches back onto the Buckingham Branch line. If we want, we can photograph it at a couple locations as we travel back to I-81. We will then return to the parking lot at about 4:30 PM.
