Photographing The Night Sky and the Milky Way
Details
Everyone loves to gaze at the beauty of the Milky Way. Even more so to be able to photograph it! At this time of year, the Milky Way rises early so it can be seen without stay up too late. The Powhatan Wildlife Management Area is the best location for photographing the stars less than an hour from Richmond. Most places are much farther out. So, weather dependent we will meet out there at 8pm. Deer Lane is a dirt road, a bit rough. There is a small lake there and a turnaround where we will meet. The lake offers an opportunity to get reflections of the stars. Bring, of course, a tripod and a very wide lens with an aperture of f/2.8 or f/4. Also, a flashlight but one the isn't too bright. I can help with exposure. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Right now, it looks to be a clear night, and the slim crescent moon will set at 8:30pm. We shouldn't be out there long, an hour is plenty. Hope you can come out!
