Hike on the Glenwood Dunes Trail
Details
arrive late? park in the farthest east lot, cross US 12, and start walking east on the Glenwood Dunes Extension Trail. if you walk fast, you should run into us.
dear friends--
before the hike, Jonathan and i will meet at the USGS building in 2 cars. he will leave his car there, and i will drive him to the Dune Park train station, where we will meet at 12:00 PM CDT (1:00 PM EDT). though we will not be using the train, the lot is usually not full, and i've never heard of anyone's having problems parking there.
this event will be close to the fourth anniversary of Jonathan with the group, and the third anniversary of Jonathan as an event organizer. thanks to Jonathan for the many hikes he has planned and led for the three years.
there is a restroom at the South Shore train station, and another at the USGS center.
getting people together and ready to hike will take a little while, but let's be moving by 12:15.
this should be a dog-friendly hike, so you may bring your well-behaved, leashed Canine American friends--except that if you will need a ride to get back to your car, make arrangements ahead of time.
i am attending the hike to drive Jonathan to the trailhead, and to say hello to you all. i will hike some of the trail myself at my own speed, but Jonathan will lead the hike.
we will cross US 12, walk south on CR 50E, and turn left on the Glenwood Dunes Extension Trail.
make a careful note of HOW TO GET BACK TO YOUR CAR, just in case you need to turn back.
we will hike approximately 6 miles on the extension trail, then the Glenwood Dunes trail proper, and end up at the USGS building, where there will be water and restrooms.
Jonathan suggested that we could have another option of adding 2 more miles to the hike if one other person would be willing to leave a car at the Beverly Shores train station where the Dunewood Trace ends. if anyone would like to volunteer, please leave a comments below, and i'll contact you.
i encourage you to TAKE and POST pictures. if you don't know how to post, please text them to me, and i will post them for you.
Make sure to check the weather on the day of the event and dress appropriately http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Beverly+Shores+IN+46301 . Be sure to bring along plenty of water (preferably 2 quarts), and a snack which we will eat along the way.
i will pass a hat for a small donation to cover expenses: mostly, this is the cost of using the meetup website, which has almost doubled in price in the last few years; but sometimes I need some dinero to pay for occasional gifts to neighbors who let us use their parking, prizes for contests, etc. as long as i can cover this with people putting $2-3 in a can, i prefer not doing anything more binding or complicated.
if you have symptoms of, or have recently tested positive for Covid-19 (or any other contagious disease), please DO NOT ATTEND.
