Floorplay w/ Virginia Varland

Please join us for a contra dance, featuring Floorplay, with Virginia Varland calling!

From Paul Rosen: "Floorplay's members are avid dancers and they have carefully crafted medleys to fit today's contra dances. Rya Martin (piano), Paul Rosen (mandolin, fiddle, accordion), and Aaron Lamb (drums) have been playing dances up and down the east coast since 2004 and are passionate about making sure the music lifts the spirits of the dancers."

About our caller: "Virginia Varland loves to dance— she also loves calling dances. She believes contra dance is for all people, and supports local Virginia dance communities as a caller, organizer, ardent dancer, and broom pusher. She values variety in a dance program, and selects dances she has enjoyed dancing herself. Virginia is recognized by her friendly demeanor on the mic, as well as her attentive care for dancer experiences."

Contra dancing is a style of folk dance made up of long lines of couples. This is a beginner-friendly dance with a 30-minute lesson at the beginning, and a caller who gives direction for each dance throughout the night. You can choose to dance either role, as the Lark (left side) or the Robin (right side). Bring yourself, bring your friends! We love seeing new faces!

Entry fee is $10-20 on a sliding scale.

The beginner's lesson will be from 7pm to 7:30pm. The main dance is from 7:30pm to 10pm.

Masks are optional.
