• What we'll do
Join us for an interactive “book club” based on R for Data Science Chapters 4, 6, and 8 (links: http://r4ds.had.co.nz/workflow-basics.html, http://r4ds.had.co.nz/workflow-scripts.html, http://r4ds.had.co.nz/workflow-projects.html). Developing a streamlined workflow is essential for good coding practice and general data organization. Whether you are new to R or an expert, your work can benefit from our discussion of workflow basics, scripting, and projects.

Agenda:
6:00-6:15: Introduction, survey, debugging today's code
6:15-7:15: Chapter overview and group discussion
7:15-7:30: Apply to “real” data using example data from opendataphilly.org
7:30-7:45: Lightning talk - "R vs. Python for Data Science" by Seda Japp
7:45-8:00: Scheduling, networking

We are being hosted by our friends at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business. Check out their highly-ranked program at http://www.lebow.drexel.edu/

We are also supported by RStudio (https://www.rstudio.com). RStudio has a mission to provide the most widely used open source and enterprise-ready professional software for the R statistical computing environment. These tools further the cause of equipping everyone, regardless of means, to participate in a global economy that increasingly rewards data literacy.

• What to bring
Bring a laptop with R and RStudio installed. We recommend everyone read the chapters ahead of time and work through the exercises. If you need help installing R or issues relevant to the day's lesson, come early so we can help you trouble-shoot.

• Important to know
If you haven't been to an R-Ladies event, fill out our survey! http://bit.ly/rladies-survey
We will then add you to our Slack, where we can answer questions.
