Data Cleaning with R

Data Cleaning… It’s the hard work you do before you can do the “real” work. If you want to make a beautiful visualization or build a useful model, you need to get the data into R correctly and clean it up! Datasets often have inconsistent values or data types, missing values, and other annoyances that can trip you up. Join us to talk data in a relaxing and friendly environment!

What we will do:
6pm: Gather, eat pizza, and get set up
6:30pm: Foundations of data cleaning in R and discussion of common data headaches
7:00pm: Group practice on a real-world messy dataset (Philly Farmer's Markets)
7:30pm: Talk by Irem Celen: “Cleaning up Messy Genetics Data”

Important information:
• A photo ID is required to enter WeWork at 1601 Market. (Student ID is fine)
• Bring your laptop to participate
• Pre-read of Chapters 1-2 of “An Introduction to Data Cleaning with R” is highly encouraged (https://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/de_Jonge+van_der_Loo-Introduction_to_data_cleaning_with_R.pdf)
