This talk will provide a general introduction to survival analysis in R. After introducing the concept of and need for survival analysis methods, we will first discuss how to format a dataset properly to conduct a survival analysis, including working with dates, calculating date differences, and coding events and censoring. Then, we will learn how to perform basic survival analyses in R including plotting Kaplan-Meier curves and fitting Cox regression models. We will discuss the proper ways to interpret the results, and some of the common ways survival analysis results are mis-interpreted.
