Webinar: Finding hidden topics in documents and other text analyses in R

Rocío Joo (University of Florida) will present a procedure to identify topics in a set of documents using an example of scientific articles in a field of science, movement ecology. To tell the whole story behind this case study, she will briefly explain how she addressed the identification of the papers of interest, show some code for downloading articles, extracting the text and finally perform data analysis. The latter will mainly consist of fitting Latent Dirichlet Allocation models to identify the latent or hidden topics.
If there will be time, she will also talk about other types of text analysis.
Rocío is an ecological statistician, currently working as a postdoctoral research associate at University of Florida, investigating animal movement models, and other quantitative methods and R tools to analyze movement. She recently published a scientific article examining R packages for movement (https://arxiv.org/abs/1901.05935) and maintains a CRAN Task View of those packages (https://cran.r-project.org/web/views/Tracking.html) . She is part of R-ladies and participates in the Latin American R community.
