First steps on Git using R-Studio and GitHub
Details
This R-Ladies Tbilisi meetup is happy to welcome Elisa Schneider (see bio below)! During this workshop we will introduce the concept of version control using Git, RStudio and GitHub. We will learn the basic Git commands and how to use them directly from R-Studio. Elisa Schneider will show how to link your R-Projects with GitHub to create online repositories to share your work and how it can be used for collaboration. At the end she will do a short demo on uploading a small WebPage to Github such as the one from R-Ladies Seattle https://github.com/rladies-seattle/rladies-seattle-organizing. If we have enough time she will introduce other possibilities such as GitHub Webpages like this one: https://kyla-mcconnell.github.io/website/index.html.
If you have some time to prepare before the Meetup, Elisa recommends to:
· create a GitHub account (if you do not have one yet) on https://github.com/
· download and install Git from https://git-scm.com/
For the last part of the meetup some very basic knowledge of markdown/Rmarkdown is recommended, but not mandatory, we will also go through it. If you want, you can have a look at the first 35 minutes of this video about RMarkdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H91WSwALx1A
