UseR Seattle and RLadies Vancouver are teaming up to bring you a panel of professionals to discuss career paths, current challenges with working at home and navigating these strange times. Whether you are starting out in your career or a seasoned veteran, the information covered will help you in your career! Bring your questions and notepad!
Here is a sneak peak at some of the questions we will be asking:
-What skills should a new data scientist have if trying to get a job as a data scientist/data engineer/data analyst

Panelist Profiles:
Lisa Cao
Lisa works on building open source tools for bioinformaticians after spending a few years doing bench and animal work in biobehavioural research labs. Despite formally is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts she has many achievements in technology such as winning hackathons and landing data science internships. During this event she is interested in helping others with their early career transitions into data science from nontechnical backgrounds.
Raïssa Philibert
Raïssa an environmental data scientist with a background in chemical oceanography. On a day-to-day basis, she contributes to the design, maintenance and management of environmental databases. She also works on analyzing big environmental monitoring datasets for various sectors including government and mining industries. Her main message in this event is that data science includes a variety of fields and has many points of entry.
Arundhati Ghosh
Arundhati presently works on network data products (telecom) with prior experience in Quant Finance and Healthcare analytics. She develops data commodities based on large scale data, related to network usage and user experience. Her primary focus is to derive insights that drive key decisioning. She is interested to help others in starting a career in data science and practical tips for interview preparation.
Ellis Hughes
Ellis Hughes is a Statistical Programmer at Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center where he work on a team that evaluates potential HIV vaccine candidates. After graduating from Washington State University with a degree in Bioengineering, he found a passion for programming in R while working on statistical genetics. Ellis enjoys building packages to support his workflows, learning more about programming, and organizing meetups for the Seattle UseR Group.
