Tues, June 13th: "The Future of AI," 6 PM MDT, In-Person ONLY, CU Boulder

Details
The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) will host an IN-PERSON
ONLY meeting on Tuesday, June 13th at 6 PM MDT in Boulder called “The
Future of AI." This panel discussion will offer insights into the
powerful capabilities that AI is predicted to acquire in the next 6 to 12 months, and how these advancements may influence vital areas such as productivity, job displacement, and AI quality. Please join us on Tuesday, June 13th at 6 pm at the ATLAS building (Room 100), located on CU Boulder’s campus. Capacity is about 150 attendees. 1125 18th St, Boulder, CO 80309
Thanks to the generosity of Karl Dakin and Entrepreneur Pro, we now have a Pizza Sponsor! Thanks, Karl, for being our Pie-lanthropist! Entrepreneur Pro is the producer of the Entrepreneur Coach - an AI avatar on entrepreneurship, the Motivated Money Podcast - a weekly presentation of raising money by entrepreneurs and the Motivated Money Bootcamp.
Our first distinguished speaker, Dr. Josiah Seaman, a data scientist from
the biotech industry, will begin the discussion. With a PhD in
Bioinformatics and a passion for technology, Josiah has actively
followed advancements in AI/Machine Learning, aerospace engineering,
and sustainable energy.
He's currently working full time on launching his own startup called
Creative Contours, which aims to modernize copyright law by enabling
artists to claim, quantify, and monetize contributions to AI-generated
art. Josiah has been an active member of RMAIIG, both pitching his
startup at "Chat Tank" as well as speaking at multiple "Afterparty"
events where he has been decoding complicated technical topics for our
broad audience.
Key Emerging AI Features we will explore:
1. Text + Audio + Images + Video + Robotics
We'll discuss the huge potential of multimodal models, which enable AI
systems to not only process text but also perceive and generate
images, engage in conversations, produce sounds, and respond to audio. Explore the implications of this technology on various domains and its impact on human-machine interactions.
2. Can AI actually generate its own training data? If so, how??
Unveil the concept of amplification, a process where AI systems can
generate vast amounts of high-quality training data, surpassing the
existing human-generated content. However, with this amplification
comes the challenge of biases and potential errors being magnified.
Gain insights into the implications of AI-generated content surpassing
human-produced content on a global scale.
3. How does AI improve itself? Should this concern us?
Learn about the powerful process of distillation, wherein neural
networks can autonomously improve beyond human capabilities. Combined
with energy-saving techniques, this approach allows for achieving
higher quality outcomes with reduced energy consumption. Explore the
potential applications and implications of this self-improvement
paradigm.
4. AI self talk (no humans needed!)
Discover how AI systems can enhance their intelligence through
self-critique, without any human intervention. Gain valuable insights
into Auto GPT and SmartGPT, which showcase the effectiveness of AI
self-evaluation in driving intelligence improvement.
Our second speaker, futurist Wayne Radinsky will also discuss the future of AI, covering ideas beyond the 1-year horizon. He emphasizes the value of making specific, testable predictions and will offer advice on what to pay attention to, including technology improvements, applications, and speculative potential uses. He brings attention to robotics as a field that has not yet experienced a major AI breakthrough, like ChatGPT, but might soon. Furthermore, he urges caution against overly simplistic extrapolation of AI progress and promises to delve into
potential applications of current AI technologies across diverse
fields, while acknowledging the challenge of predicting the timing and
order of future developments.
Starting as a futurist in 1997 with inquiries into Moore's Law, Wayne
Radinsky joined the original Bay Area Future Salon, and later
co-founded the Boulder Future Salon in 2006. He is the primary
organizer of BSF, disseminating future-relevant news and strategies
for future forecasting, with a focus on AI. He took part in the first
massive open online course (MOOC), "Introduction to AI" and Machine Learning with Andrew Ng in 2011. He also took all 5 DeepLearning.AI courses with Andrew Ng in 2017.
Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights into the exciting future
of AI and its potential to reshape our world. Reserve your spot at
“The Future of AI" today!
We're super-stoked to see you all in person!! (We're also hoping to
have a ChatGPT-enabled "guest" who will be speaking to us before and
after the meeting.)
