The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) invites you to an in-person meeting on Wednesday, February 12th, at 6:00 PM MST at CU Boulder to discuss 'AI Ethics, Safety, and Regulation.'

As AI systems become increasingly powerful and integrated into our daily lives, the need for robust ethical frameworks and regulatory oversight has never been more critical. This meeting will explore the intersection of AI development with ethical considerations, safety measures, and the evolving landscape of AI regulation, bringing together perspectives from both academic research and policy-making.

Our first speaker, Dr. Philip Butler, is an international scholar at the forefront of exploring the intersections of neuroscience, technology, spirituality, and Blackness. As the founder of the Seekr Project, which developed a distinctly Black conversational artificial intelligence with mental health capacities, Dr. Butler brings unique insights into ethical AI development. His groundbreaking work includes theorizing artificial cognitive architectures for synthetic evolving life forms (SELF) and developing brain-computer interfaces that focus on emotional regulation and spiritual experiences. His presentation will address the crucial aspects of incorporating diverse perspectives and ethical considerations in AI development.

Our second speaker, Representative Brianna Titone from the Colorado House of Representatives, is the house sponsor of the Colorado AI Act. Brianna is a geologist and software engineer, and brings a unique perspective to AI legislation.As a state lawmaker, Rep. Titone brings valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of creating effective AI policy at the state level. Her presentation will explore the theory and practice of frameworks aimed at ensuring responsible AI development while fostering innovation.

The meeting will also feature a 'State of the Industry' report on the latest developments in AI regulation, along with a panel discussion on how AI safety is being addressed globally and by leading companies.
