What we’re about
We are a group of friends with similar interests - the primary one being hiking. It doesn't matter if it's a one-day trip or a multi-day backpack; we like climbing up and down mountains throughout the Northeast (and beyond). Having other people come along with us makes things even more fun. Other activities on our calendar include biking (rail trail, road, & off-road), kayaking (rivers, lakes, & ocean), skiing (downhill & cross country), and various adventure races.
Our approach is simple - the strength of a cohesive group is greater than the sum of its individual parts. We start as a group, stay as a group, and finish as a group. Our pace will be that of the slowest hiker. We travel in small groups (10-15 people) to lessen our impact on the environment and the others who are also out there enjoying the peace and solitude of the outdoors. The ultimate goal is to get outside, have a safe and enjoyable time, and then do it again.
Most of our hikes involve climbing to the highest summits in the Northeast. That means people may have to get up early, drive a long distance, and then spend most of the day hiking. There aren’t many late starts, short days, or easy/moderate level hikes on our calendar. Instead of trying to do something that another group has already perfected, we have partnered with the Blue Hills Hiking Club out of Boston, MA. If you live in the Boston area and want to get outdoors they offer almost daily hikes of varying distances and speeds. \
If this sounds like fun then be sure to join our group and sign-up for an event. \

This hike is considered ADVANCED because of distance, elevation gain and terrain. Read the entire description before you RSVP to this event. If you underestimate the demands; overestimate your knowledge, experience, skills or abilities; or come unprepared you put yourself and others at risk. Consider this before you RSVP.
You can IGNORE any efforts from meetup to upsell you, no special privileges are needed to join the hike.
== What We're Doing ==
We'll summit four 4K peaks in this hike. The entire loop is 16.5 miles with 5500' gain. The terrain is tough but not brutal. This walk will definitely get the sludge moving.
We'll start at the North Twin Trail trailhead at the end of Haystack Road and head for North Twin, then South Twin, follow Twinway to Guyot, Zealand and on towards Hale via Lend-a-Hand. We'll descend via the very chill Fire Warden's Trail and then back to Haystack Road.
If you are interested in participating in this event sign up for the waiting list. I will add people that answer the questions that are part of the RSVP process.
The maximum group size for this trip will be 10 people.
Guests aren't permitted.=== Trip Summary ===
We start as a group, hike as a group, and finish as a group. We will hike at 1.5-2mph pace (moderate). Maybe a little faster where it's flat and terrain allows, but mostly it does not allow. It should take about 12 hours with breaks, however THIS IS A LONG HIKE so we might be out there for longer. >>> So don't forget your headlamp(s) <<<
Inclement weather will cancel the event. None of us need to go to Hypothermia Heaven.
=== What to Bring ===
A good gear list is here.
• https://www.outdoors.org/resources/amc-outdoors/outdoor-resources/three-season-hiking-and-backpacking-gear-list/Do not rely on others to have extra items to share with you at the meeting spot or on the trail. You should know how to use all of your equipment - test it for fit prior to this trip.
=== RSVP Instructions ===
RSVP Process: You will be asked a few questions after you click "YES" for this event - "Did you read the entire event description? What hikes have you done in the last three months? What was the last 15+ miler you hiked? Where do none of us need to go on this hike? What is your cell number for last minute arrangements? " Stay under the 250 character limit, otherwise Meetup will drop your response and I won't know you are signed up. You can always direct message me for more info / questions. Meetup can take hours to forward messages, so SMS/text is much better for last minute hiccups.
