A Serpentine Roam in the Presidio

Details

I have lots going on for most of September, so the only roams will be on the last weekend (26th and 27th)

We don't need an excuse to roam through the Presidio, but still, I'm always trying to find new angles for our routes. This one will include some favourite little corners of the Presidio, but the basis of it is geological.

Geology is destiny as I have started to say - what makes some parts of the city (more or less) solid rock, and other parts dunes? Why are there streaks of serpentine rock across the city?

For this roam, we will start at the Warming Hut (look for us on the benches on the far side from the bridge) and work our way up to Inspiration Point, spotting serpentine here and there. The first half of the roam is a fairly gentle uphill, with a corresponding descent on the way back, and much of it will be off-road.

Bringing water, snacks, and layers for all the microclimates is the way to go.

These roams are offered by donation. They are one way I am able to pay my rent in San Francisco.

Punctuality is always appreciated. Please send a message on the app if you are running a little late. I can usually respond to messages before we get underway, but then I won't be checking my phone. Meetup has now added a "share location" feature, so you will be able to catch up.

I know Meetup is notorious for no-shows and late changes of rsvp. I am not as strict as other organisers (we do talk to each other!), but I do track those who regularly drop off or no-show, and have disinvited several people with dismal attendance records, as it is discourteous for others who would like to attend.
