What we’re about

This group is managed by the Country Dancers of Rochester (founded on June 23, 1976). We sponsor traditional New England Contra Dances on Thursdays and English country dances on Sundays. Our dances are participatory and open to all, with live music, and are smoke- and alcohol-free. We charge a nominal fee to cover costs. Newcomers are always welcome. Dances are taught and prompted, with more teaching at the beginning of the evening. No partner or special dress needed — dress comfortably and wear soft-soled, low-heeled shoes.

Our English dances typically have 20-30 participants at every dance and our contra dances usually have 30-40 participants at every dance.

Arrive half an hour early for free beginner lessons.

Contra dances take place in the South Wedge at the Gregory St Ballroom at 295 Gregory St, Rochester, NY 14609.
English country dances take place in Brighton at the First Baptist Church, 175 Allens Creek Rd, Rochester, NY 14618.
