About us
Need climbing buddies? This group is for "plaisir" (chilled) climbers who already have solid belaying and basic climbing skills (beginners should take a lead belaying course before applying to join). We organise outdoor sport and multi-pitch rock climbing, and indoor gym climbing in the off-season. Our motto: Be Safe, Have Fun, Climb Again Next Week!
Please read the following VITAL INFORMATION! Acceptance of these terms is a precondition for participation in any event.
###DISCLAIMER###
*Climbing is a potentially dangerous activity and is done entirely at each individual’s own risk.
*The organisers accept NO liability or responsibility for any injuries or death, that might result directly or indirectly from any event.
*Each member IS responsible for their own safety, and that of anyone they climb with on a given day.
*Each member is responsible for their own accident insurance. We strongly advise have a REGA subscription.
*The organisers of this group are NOT professional or licensed mountain or climbing guides, but we have decades of climbing experience and are happy to share our knowledge without any liability.
*The purpose of this group is NOT to provide any climbing instruction, but merely to allow existing climbers to connect with each other and engage in safe, fun climbing in the superb mountains and crags of Switzerland.
* Every member must ensure that both they and their climbing buddy on a given day have the correct equipment in good condition (including harness, rope, quickdraws, rock shoes, helmet, chalk, appropriate clothing, water, food, etc.).
*Each member must ensure that correct “partner checks” are done before EVERY route is climbed (rope is tied with correct knot to harness; harness is doubled back; leader has sufficient quickdraws; belay device is being properly used; end of rope has a knot in it, etc.).
*To protect the safety of all members, the organisers reserve the right to terminate the membership of anyone who does not abide by the above conditions and/or who is deemed to have inadequate belaying and/or rope management skills, and/or who may put other climbers in danger, and/or who does not support the friendly, courteous and respectful ethos of the group.
WHO IS THIS GROUP FOR?
· Climbers who already have rock solid top-rope and lead belaying skills and some basic climbing skills (at least one year of experience).
· This group is NOT for absolute beginners who want to learn how to rock climb. Please do a climbing course first, e.g. with the Swiss Alpine Club, and get a certification in belaying techniques (e.g. from a climbing gym or professional instructor).
WHAT WE DO
· Outdoor single-pitch and (occasionally) multi-pitch sport (bolted) rock climbing, mainly in Central Switzerland but sometimes further afield (e.g. Ticinio, Jura, Graubünden). Our events are held at “plaisir” crags with grades ranging from 4a to around 6c (but mostly around 5a to 6b).
· Some of our favourite crags are: Holzegg, Ibergeregg (Schwyz); Albbruck, Orvin (Jura); Plattenkreuz, Mettmenalp, Engi, Brüggler (Glarus); Pizol (St. Gallen); Guferstock, Pfriendler, Eden (Uri/Bern); Ponte Brolla, Balladrum, Arcegno (Ticino).
· Indoor gym climbing in the Zurich-Zug-Lucerne area (e.g. Kletterzentrum Wädenswil, Milandia, Pilatus Indoor) – mainly during the off-season (winter).
· Occasionally, we might organise a Klettersteig (via ferrata).
FEES
Although we do not charge fees as such, we ask for small contributions of CHF 5 per person per event to contribute towards the Meetup Organizer costs (around CHF 82 every 6 months). Once the annual costs are covered, we will not ask for further contributions.
TRANSPORT
Transport to the crag is the responsibility of each member. Most crags are accessible by public transport. However, members can arrange carpooling via Meetup messaging; sometimes we create a dedicated WhatsApp group to facilitate easier communication for an event.
LIMITED PLACES
Event organisers can set a limit as to how many people can join an event, depending on the circumstances (e.g. crag size and accessibility). Please be considerate and respectful of this.
RSVP
Please only sign up for the event if there is a very high likelihood of your attendance. It takes quite a bit of time for the organisers to arrange an event, and places may be limited. If your plans change, sign out «No» as soon as possible.
With all that said, we look forward to safe, fun and social climbing together!
