What we’re about

The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) is a community of both non-technical and technical members who are passionate and enthusiastic about the recent advancements in generative AI tools. This group is focused on exploring and discussing the latest developments in AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT, DALL-E, Midjourney, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Google’s Gemini.  We will also look at the impact of these tools on business, education, workplace, law, entrepreneurship and society in general.

The group is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all individuals who have an interest in AI and its applications. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, RMAIIG aims to provide a platform for learning, sharing ideas, and collaborating with like-minded people.

Our events will host speakers who are experts in some aspect of AI and able to communicate with a broad audience of non-technical users. You will be able to stay ahead of the curve on fast-moving developments in the field and get your questions answered.

    AI for Good

Ann and H.J. Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences, 3775 Discovery Dr., BOULDER, CO, US

The Rocky Mountain AI Interest Group (RMAIIG) will host an in-person meeting in Boulder on Wednesday, December 17th, at 6:00 pm MT on “AI for Good.”

These days, anyone following artificial intelligence is met with a steady stream of headlines emphasizing the risks and challenges of this rapidly advancing technology. While it’s important to grapple with those issues, it’s equally vital to recognize the many positive outcomes emerging from AI innovation. That’s why RMAIIG is highlighting some of the inspiring and beneficial ways AI is making an impact.

Thanks to our pizza sponsor, MyMech (www.mymechapp.com), details below.

    We’re delighted to share that
Phil Nugent and Crys Black are organizing and facilitating this meeting.

Alongside Phil's work developing a balanced, “best-of-both-worlds” approach to AI in digital marketing, he is the founder and editor-in-chief of Colorado AI News. In that capacity, he's continually scouting for stories featuring Colorado’s AI leaders and entrepreneurs - as well as standout examples of “AI for Good.”

Crys is a fractional chief marketing officer and AI-focused business consultant. With two decades in tech and startup leadership, she helps early-stage companies align marketing, operations, and automation strategy. Crys serves on the advisory board of RMAIIG and is a member of the AI Pioneers Club.

It promises to be an action-packed evening, featuring four new presenters and two returning "AI for Good" alumni.

    The Featured Presenters:

beneAI bridges the gap between AI and social impact. Based in Denver, the consultancy provides accessible, affordable AI advisory services to small and medium-sized mission-driven organizations. beneAI empowers teams through learning modules, policy and governance support, and strategic planning.

The founder of beneAI, Jacob Bielecki, has spent his career helping hundreds of mission-driven professionals and organizations in the US and abroad build better business acumen and strategic clarity. Previously the Business Results Manager for Boulder County and a Senior Consultant with California-based Collaborative Consulting, he lives in Arvada with his wife and two daughters.

Meeting Briefs AI automatically tracks meetings at the municipal, state, and federal level, and then delivers detailed summaries directly to subscribers' inboxes. This helps citizens learn about issues that affect their neighborhoods and daily lives while there's still time for action, as well as allowing attorneys and policy consultants to spot relevant decisions as soon as possible.

Mark Bloomfield, founder, has spent 20+ years at the intersection of construction, policy, and civic engagement. He's been a Boulder County Planning Commissioner for nearly nine years, an experience that has helped him understand the inner workings of municipal government. Mark holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University.

Kevin Gilbert’s passion is using technology to improve well-being. He focuses on appropriate technology; not the latest shiny tech jewels, but the tools that can really affect how people live and work. He is excited by the general utility of generative AI, and thus how many different ways it can be used with impact.

See the Stars is a mission-driven agency that has spent a decade using the science of direct response marketing to help connect people with the services they deserve, referring nearly one million individuals each year to programs that improve their health, stability, and financial well-being. The agency is now using AI to dramatically accelerate what’s possible. In this session, they’ll share how they’re building an AI-powered platform that streamlines the path from need to help – starting with one of the most complex challenges in the benefits landscape: property tax assistance.

Peter Guenardi, founder of See the Stars, has spent 25 years leading teams across nonprofits, agencies, and software companies to build products, launch programs, and scale what works. At See the Stars, he brings together direct response science and emerging AI tools to strengthen the safety net and make access to benefits simpler and more human-centered.

Ondine Geary, product manager, is a researcher and community builder with more than two decades of experience leading programs in nonprofits, arts organizations, and education. At See the Stars, she leads human-centered research that shapes how people discover and navigate services, and she plays a key role in developing AI-enabled tools that reduce barriers to public benefits. Her work is rooted in a lifelong commitment to meaning-making, creativity, and community connection.

NixIt AI has been built by a neurodivergent team for the 50 million neurodivergent Americans tired of spending more than $50 billion annually on fragmented tools that don’t work. As their website proclaims, “NixIt isn’t about fixing you. It’s about honoring how you think, supporting how you work, and celebrating who you are.“

Kathy Long is the founder and CEO at NixIt AI, the first AI ecosystem built for neurodivergent authenticity. She’s designed and built the entire product stack: frontend React dashboard, FastAPI backend, SMS infrastructure with Stripe payments, AI agent layer, and personalized command center for families and professionals.

    The Returning Alumni:

To start off the evening, RMAIIG is excited to have returning alumni from last year’s “AI for Good” event present in quasi-lightning-round fashion. They will be providing attendees with updates on their progress over the last 12 months, as well as providing a quick look ahead.

Returning alumni include Aimee Says, the first AI platform built specifically to support people experiencing relationship abuse. Aimee helps users recognize abusive dynamics, document what’s happening in real time, organize evidence, and prepare for legal, academic, workplace, and personal decisions.

Aimee’s presenters will be CEO Anne Wintemute and CTO Steven Nichols. Anne is an expert in coercive control and has spent years helping survivors recognize complex abuse dynamics, navigate legal systems, and reclaim their autonomy. Steven leads architecture, safety, and AI engineering for the platform, building the technical backbone that allows Aimee to deliver accurate, context-aware support across complex abuse scenarios.

Our second returning alum is Ojje, an ed-tech company advancing reading abilities to overcome the U.S. literacy crisis, where 67% of children lack reading proficiency by 5th grade. The firm leverages cutting-edge technology – including AI, ML, and NLP – to equip educators with an ever-expanding library of content that meets every student where they are to improve reading outcomes at scale.

Ben Moultrie, head of partnerships for Ojje, has a rich and rare combination of professional experience spanning technology innovation, enterprise operations, business development, and more demonstrated through leadership roles at IBM, Lockheed Martin Space, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

There will be free pizza, courtesy of MyMech.
