Wellington-Red Feather Lakes Gravel (Challenge Series)

This gravel loop is part of the RMCC Challenge Series (https://www.rockymountaincyclingclub.com/rmcc-challenge-series).

This ride will very likely be a long and hard day in your gravel saddle! We'll meet on Wine Cup Street just south of Sparge Brewing and north of the Wellington Business Center (plenty of on-street parking). In order to get ahead of the heat, this ride has an early start time: meet at 6:45 am to sign RMCC waiver and hear any final instructions, with wheels out at 7:00 am sharp.

The total route is 113 miles with 8,200 feet of climbing. It is 84% gravel and 16% pavement:

There will be 3 re-supply points on the route: twice at The Forks Mercantile (approximately miles 25 and 88) and the Red Feather Trading Post (approximately mile 61). However, given the remoteness of much of the route and the potential for a hot day with much exposure, it is strongly recommended to be self-sufficient by carrying enough calories and fluids. I will be bringing 2 large bottles, a hydration pack, and lots of calories.

I've ridden the first/last 25 miles of this route, but I am unfamiliar with everything west of Hwy 287. From friends and riding buddies who've ridden in the area, there is both champagne gravel and very rocky gravel. I recommend at least 35mm tires. I will be driving to scout the route at least 2 weeks prior, so it is IMPORTANT to RSVP to this ride in case changes are made to the route. Of course, you will want to have the final ride file downloaded to your GPS cycling computer, and maybe a printed cue sheet to be safe. This should be considered a drop ride although we will (may) regroup on a periodic basis.
