MAKING YOUR OWN SOUNDS WITH ABLETON'S SAMPLERS by MARKMOSHER (http://www.markmoshermusic.com)

Sound design with samples and field recordings is one of the fastest ways for you to go beyond factory presets to more unique signature sounds for your music. By using Ableton's Simpler instrument (included with every version of Live), and the more advanced Ableton Sampler instrument (add-on or bundled with Ableton Suite) you can also easily go beyond audio clip launching to more advanced sound shaping, sound design, and expressive performance. Because these instruments are integrated with Ableton Live, the sound design process is incredibly organic once you understand a few basic concepts and workflow.

Mark Mosher (who has been using these instruments for over 6 years, was a licensed by Ableton sound designer, and is the creator of "Sounds from a Distant Outpost (http://patchlab.modulatethis.com/)" Live Pack, and collaborated on #38 (http://www.afrodjmac.com/blog/2011/12/15/afrodjmac-and-mark-mosher-zebra-attack-ableton-live-rack-38) & #40 (http://www.afrodjmac.com/blog/2011/12/28/ableton-rack-40-zebra-attack-ii-mark-mosher-afrodjmac) Live Packs with AfroDJMac) will walk you through:

• Basic sample import and manipulation in Ableton Simpler

• Overview of the Ableton Sampler instrument interface

• Step-by-step demo of creating a sound in Ableton Sampler

• How to add modulation and real-time expression to your creations

• How to create multi-sampled sounds (splits, layers, velocity splits...)

• How to create performance racks with effects and MIDI mapping macros

• A quick behind-the-scenes look at the free Ableton Live Pack "Sounds from a Distant Outpost"

WHAT TO BRING:

• Appetite: 95a Bistro is letting use this room for free so help show your appreciation by coming hungry and thirsty :^)

• Headphones: It's always a good idea to arrive with your own headphones (that will work 1/4" or 1/8") so you can plug into instruments people bring along and share during mingling and hands-on.

• If your an Ableton user and use Simpler or Sampler, feel free to bring your laptop so you can show other members your sounds and tips during the mingling and hands-on. Headphones are a must.
