About us
Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Atheists!
The mission of the Rocky Mountain Atheists (RMA) is to be a safe and supportive secular community dedicated to serving society; to support those who have been marginalized or traumatized as a result of faith-based beliefs; and to provide and promote evidence-based learning opportunities.
RMA is so much more than a Meetup group! We typically host about 10 events per month, most of them free. Our activities include social gatherings, peer support, community service, and educational activities. If you would like to learn more about our organization, please visit us at www.rockymountainatheists.ca
A note about respectful behaviour:
We are an inclusive community of atheists, humanists, skeptics and secular freethinkers who welcome people of all backgrounds and identities.
We won't all agree all the time, but disagreement is no excuse for disrespectful behaviour. Disagreements should be resolved in a constructive manner and without personal attacks. Challenge ideas, not people. Do not insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary behaviour aren’t acceptable.

Thriving Without Religion: A Public Gathering
Congress Coffee Company, 215 36 Ave NE, 1A, Calgary, AB, CAWhether you’re just starting to question your faith or have been living as a secular humanist for years, the transition away from religious dogma can feel like both a relief and a challenge.
The Rocky Mountain Atheists are proud to present Thriving Without Religion, an in-person gathering designed to help you navigate life after faith and build a meaningful, joyful existence rooted in reason and community.
About the Event
"Thriving Without Religion is a public, open event that focuses on the positive aspects of secular life, moving beyond what we don't believe and focusing on what we do value: human connection, scientific curiosity, and ethical living.
What to Expect:- Purpose & Meaning: Explore how to create your own "why" in a universe without a predetermined script.
- Secular Ethics: Discuss how we build strong moral foundations based on empathy, compassion, and shared humanity rather than divine command.
- Community Building: Meet like-minded individuals in a safe, non-judgmental space. Religion often provides a ready-made social circle; we’ll talk about how to build a better one ourselves.
- Practical Tools: Short presentations or peer-led discussions on handling family dynamics, finding secular rituals, and embracing the "awe" of the natural world.
Who is this for?
This event is open to everyone—atheists, agnostics, skeptics, and the "spiritually curious." Whether you are looking for support during a "deconstruction" phase or simply want to celebrate a life of free thought with new friends, you are welcome here.
Note: We believe in challenging ideas, not people. This is an inclusive environment where respectful dialogue and diverse secular perspectives are celebrated.Privacy & Participation Notice
Thriving Without Religion is intentionally different from our Life Without Religion meetings. This event is held in a public coffee shop and is not a confidential or anonymous gathering. While we ask all participants to be respectful, attendees should assume that others may observe their presence and that there is no expectation of privacy or anonymity. If confidentiality is important to you at this stage of your journey, Life Without Religion may be a better fit.

Skeptics in the Pub: Why you are ALWAYS right on the internet ...
Limericks Traditional Public House, 7304 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB, CASkeptics in the Pub Calgary has been running monthly since 2008! We started presenting monthly topics in 2018, and many members of our community have either presented or suggested great topics. There is plenty of time to mingle and meet other atheists, humanists, skeptics, and overall great people.
Agenda: we will mix and mingle until about 7:30, then have a 20 minute presentation on a topic of interest, followed by group discussion.
Topic: Why you are ALWAYS right on the internet ... Even when you are WRONG
The talk is about confirmation bias and how things like social media feed you what you want to hear and see.
Our presenter, Robert Cameron, is a long term veteran of SITP. He is so sure he’s right, even the internet can’t argue with him .. well, not convincingly.
