Low pressure Hip-Hop freestyle session
Details
Finally a dance event!
A community member, Michelle, reached out wanting to host a hip-hop freestyle session, and I'm helping her put it together.
Same as with the hike event we sadly had to delay: first time she's hosting anything, first time we're running this format, so treat it as more of a test, not something we are used to doing yet.
Saturday 25 July, 18:00.
We've decided to hold this one indoors this time, ideally somewhere with mirrors, but we don't actually have a space yet. If you run a studio, dance school, gym, community hall, or anywhere with some floor space and mirrors, or you just know a place like that, message me.
There's no money in this yet so I can't pay for the space, but if this first one goes well, the situation might change!
The plan: a short personal intro, a bit of hip-hop history (oldschool vs newschool, where it actually comes from), then a warm-up where Michelle shows basic moves and everyone follows along, easing into a walking cypher so nobody's thrown straight into the deep end.
Michelle also got something new called "Animation," basically miming, an idea she brought up while we were planning this. It could be a fun curveball for people who've never done anything hip-hop before. The idea
If time and mood allow there might be a round or two more on top, built so nobody has to do something they don't want.
There is also a fun concept where we can make a dance move/set that matches your name/personality.
No experience needed, and no pressure to be good at any of it. This is about moving, having fun, and getting a little more comfortable dancing with other people, not a performance.
I'll actually be there this time too, just not as the main host, mostly logistics and a second speaker to pair with hers. I also really want to participate, even though I'm shy with dancing haha.
Cost: free.
Music: two speakers between us, nothing fancy.
Venue: still open, see above. Tell me if you know a place.
Language: English and Norwegian both fine, depending on who shows up.
When / where: Saturday 25 July, 18:00. Venue to be confirmed here as soon as we lock one in.
Comment here if you know a place, or just want a heads-up once it's set.
