Room to Matter is a community for people in Amsterdam who want to build deeper, more meaningful connections, not just attend another one-off social event.
We create small group experiences where everyone is welcome to join solo. Rather than meeting once and moving on, the same group comes together across a series of gatherings, giving new connections the time and space to grow naturally.
Each series combines different ways of connecting, such as:
🌿 Storytelling and meaningful conversation
🎨 Open, free-form creative experiences
🧘 Mindful movement, yoga and reflection
There is no pressure to be outgoing, creative or experienced. Just come as you are, take part at your own pace and be open to meeting others beyond small talk.
Room to Matter is designed mainly for people in their mid-20s to mid-30s, although this is a general guide rather than a strict age limit. Internationals and Dutch locals are equally welcome.
Come alone. Meet the same small group. See what can grow.
## Looking for deeper connections, not just another one-off social event?
This three-session experience brings together a small group of 5–8 people, all joining solo. You’ll meet the same people across three different evenings, giving everyone the time and space to move beyond introductions and let connections grow naturally.
Each gathering offers a different way to connect:
### 🌿 Session 1: Beyond Small Talk
Thursday 13 August · 18:30–20:30 Park Frankendael
We’ll meet in the park and begin with a playful storytelling game designed to make introductions feel more natural and interesting. Through prompts, stories and small-group conversations, you’ll gradually get to know the people behind the usual small talk.
You won’t be expected to share anything deeply personal or speak in front of the entire group. You can participate at the level that feels comfortable to you.
Drinks and snacks will be provided. An indoor alternative will be arranged in case of rain.
### 🎨 Session 2: Create & Connect
Thursday 20 August · 18:30–20:30 Art Café
For our second gathering, we’ll reconnect around a shared table for an open, free-form creative evening. You’ll be able to explore the available art materials, follow your curiosity and create at your own pace while talking and spending time with the group.
This is not a workshop or art class: there are no step-by-step instructions and no expected final result. The activity simply gives us another, more relaxed way to connect. No artistic experience is needed.
### 🧘 Session 3: Move, Breathe & Reflect
Wednesday 26 August · 18:30–20:30 Location to be confirmed
We’ll close the series with a gentle guided yoga and meditation session, followed by drinks, snacks and a shared reflection on the three evenings.
The focus is on slowing down, reconnecting with yourself and ending the experience together as a group. No previous yoga or meditation experience is required, and you’ll always be encouraged to respect your own body and limits.
## Who is it for?
This experience is designed mainly for young adults in their mid-20s to mid-30s living in Amsterdam, although this is a general guide rather than a strict age limit. Internationals and Dutch locals are equally welcome.
You don’t need to be especially outgoing, artistic, or experienced. Everyone joins solo and is welcome to participate at their own pace.
This is the first pilot created by Room to Matter, a new Amsterdam community creating space for meaningful connections to grow.
