ROS By-The-Bay August 2024

ROS By-The-Bay is the Bay Area's only meetup exclusively for Robot Operating System (ROS) users. This month we'll have two speakers, a ROSCon, and plenty of time to chat with your fellow developers. Whether your just starting to learn about robotics, or a seasoned industry veteran, ROS By-The-Bay is a great event for connecting with other local roboticists.

After a summer conference hiatus we're back! Please note that we're back to meeting in our old location 250 Mayfield Ave. 250 Mayfield is the annex building next to the main Google X building at 100 Mayfield Ave.

Speakers this month will include:

• Florian Pokorny, Associate Professor of Machine Learning within the
  division of Robotics, Perception and Learning at KTH Royal Institute of
  Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Prof. Pokorny will present on, "Cloud Robotics for Large-Scale Data-Driven Robotic Manipulation." This presentation will discuss the group's efforts in developing large scale data-driven models for robotic manipulation as well as CloudGripper (cloudgripper.org), an open-source cloud robotics research testbed enabling large scale data collection and remote experimentation. The presentation will also touch upon how ROS 2 and CloudGripper can be utilized together, as well as some of the challenges of developing machine learning driven pipelines for cloud robotics based systems.
• Katherine Scott, ROS developer advocate at Intrinsic, will give an overview of the recent ROS 2 Jazzy Jalisco release, including a synopsis of all the new features available in ROS 2 Jazzy.

• We'll provide pizza and refreshments!
• We plan to have at least two hours for networking.
• Talks start promptly at 7pm, please arrive early if you would like to enjoy a slice of pizza.
• This event will be hosted at the Intrinsic offices in Mountain View. The location is easily accessible by car, bus, and CalTrain (San Antonio Stop).
