ROS Chicago 2022: Putting The Band Back Together

Details
Hello everyone! It’s time we all got re-acquainted. It’s been years, and the development and implementation of ROS has only continued to gain momentum. We’ve now got ROS 2 and a bunch of other new tools and features to explore which solidify ROS’s place in the robotics industry.
After some deliberation, what I’ve decided to do for a first meetup is set up a casual meeting to introduce ourselves. This will provide some background and context with which to plan future meetups, as well as give those who want to be more involved an opportunity to dive into the community. We’ve got a lot of ambition and ideas, but need your support. So, how can you support the group? Well, you can start by showing up of course!
Before we start putting the major planning into action it’s important to see who wants to get involved. What I’d like to do is hold regular monthly meetings, but again, that depends on your support. There is enough content out there for it, but if it ends up being bi-monthly or quarterly, that’s ok too. As ROS developers, it’s important to build a community and network.
Agenda:
- Personal introductions
- Relevant projects
- ROS features
- Future meeting topic brainstorming
For this meetup, we’ll be at Monk’s Pub in the Loop @ 205 W Lake St, Chicago on Wednesday, September 21st from 6-9pm. This is easily accessible via all “L” colors and Metra lines, not to mention all the major highways. If you can’t be there right at 6pm, that’s fine - get there when you can. I’ll make sure to be there for the entire duration.
Lastly, watch this group for more details as we get closer. Once the event comes, I’ll let everyone know what to look out for at Monk’s. Will likely put up a small sign at our space so anyone arriving knows who we are. They’ll have plenty of space available, so be sure to stop in. RSVP closes the night before, so get signed up as soon as you can.
Can’t wait to see you all there!
