About us

Dear thinkers and curious souls,

I am organizing this event to discuss the major questions of life. My hope is for this to become a recurring series where we gain new insights and discover fresh perspectives together. Perhaps, through our dialogue, we can even formulate a unique synthesis of our shared conclusions. For our first gathering, we will dive into the concept of marriage. Is it still a relevant institution in this day and age, or are we simply clinging to a tradition from the distant past? I often wonder if we are romanticizing the idea too much, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on whether it still holds a place in modern society. (I will reveal why I am bothered by this question at the day of the event).

To ensure everyone has the space to express themselves without interruption, we will use a "round-robin" format for the opening of our discussion. I will bring a specific object to act as our "talking stick"; whoever is holding it has the floor to share their initial thoughts while the rest of the group listens. This ensures that everyone, from the boldest to the most quiet, gets an equal opportunity to be heard. Once everyone has had their turn to speak, we will transition into a structured group dialogue guided by a list of sub-questions I have prepared. Everyone is welcome, provided you remain open-minded and respectful of opinions that differ from your own.

Regarding the logistics, I speak Dutch, but if we become a multicultural group, the primary language of discussion will be English. We will gather at Vroesenpark in Rotterdam, so please bring a picnic blanket or a cloth to sit on. If the forecast predicts a rainy day, I will make sure to reschedule the meeting at least two days in advance. Finally, if you register but find you can no longer attend, please notify me in advance. It helps me manage the group size and, more importantly, it keeps my hope in humanity alive! I look forward to meeting you all for a deep and meaningful conversation.

Kind regards,
Marc
