RTPC Monthly Daytime Photo Walk
Details
For November, let's try for some FALL COLOR. The 2025 fall color predictor map shows this area at peak on this date; of course, it's all a WAG I'm sure, but this map seems to be fairly accurate most years. We are heading northeast to Lake Bob Sandlin State Park first for some nature shooting, then into Mt. Pleasant for lunch and town shooting!
If you want to carpool/caravan from Rowlett, be at the Rowlett DART station parking lot in the area of Martin and Industrial at 8:00 am. We will then head to Lake Bob Sandlin State Park and meet at the park headquarters at or about 10:00 am - supposed to be a 1 hour 45 minute drive, but we all know traffic woes can alter that time. The park entrance address is 341 State Park Rd. 2117, Pittsburg TX. Entry is $5.00 per person or if you have an old folks pass, it will be $2.50; veterans get in free. Not sure if they accept cash or not. Please go ahead and enter and wait by the park store/headquarters for all to arrive. We will then drive around and explore for 2 - 2.5 hours or so and try and get some fall foliage (saw some beautiful fall color photos from here), wildlife, birds, whatever we find.
Once we are done at the park (guessing 12:30 or so), we'll drive about 20-25 minutes to eat lunch at Nardello's at 103 N. Madison St. Mt. Pleasant. They have good reviews and typical Italian fare and also dinner salads with protein for lighter meals. The county courthouse is located at 100 W. 1st St. and is right across the street so plenty of parking in the area.
After lunch, let's wander around the downtown area for a bit and take some photos - looks to be quite photogenic. I've shot the courthouse here, but just went in, shot the courthouse and left so never explored the town itself! If we aren't starving, we can shoot first, then eat lunch, but with an early start and being out in nature, we'll probably be pretty hungry by the time we get to Mt. Pleasant. But we can decide for sure once we get to Mt. Pleasant.
Lenses - regular walkaround and telephoto if you have one for any birds/wildlife we might find.
Anyway, let's pray for some good color this year, and I hope this sounds like a fun excursion for fall. As always, weather is unpredictable so also pray to the weather gods for a beautiful, clear, crisp fall day!
