For our December walk, let's head over to Cleburne TX as I don't think we've done a walk to the downtown area before. If you want to carpool or caravan from Rowlett, meet at the Rowlett DART Station parking lot in the area of Martin and Industrial at 9:00 am (supposed to be about 1.5 hours from Rowlett to Cleburne). If you want to meet in Cleburne, plan to meet at about 10:30 - 10:45 am at the Johnson County Courthouse at 2 N. Main St. Cleburne. We'll meet up at the corner of Main and E. Chambers St. in front of the courthouse if you park somewhere else.
There appear to be a lot of interesting old buildings in Cleburne so I think we'll find plenty to shoot there and I think I might venture inside the courthouse for a change, instead of just shooting outside.
We'll shoot for an hour and a half to two hours, then meet back up for lunch when everyone is through shooting. For lunch, I've picked Our Place Restaurant at 211 S. Caddo Cleburne. Has good reviews and typical comfort food, salads, sandwiches, etc. It's a 5 minute walk from the Courthouse, just down the street and around the corner!
After lunch, depending on the weather or if we are up to it, we can head over to Cleburne State Park at 5800 Park Road 21 Cleburne. It looks like you can drive around the lake area and park fairly close plus there are lots of trails. It appears the thing to see is the spillway, which was constructed and hand carved by the CCC out of the limestone formations. In fact, the park was largely built by the CCC. The spillway trail is about .7 miles and I figure we might find some water birds driving and stopping along the road. This part of the day is entirely up in the air and might be something we do at another time so will be based on how interested we are once we are done with lunch! The entrance fee is $6 for adults, or if you have a parklands pass, 50% off for seniors, free for veterans.
For lenses, regular walkabout lens or bring a long lens if you have it just in case we visit the State Park.
Hope this sounds fun and a new place to visit. As always, especially in the winter months, weather can completely derail our plans so I will update with any weather issues as the day draws near.
