For February, I'm planning a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo; our last attempt was derailed by weather and it's been a few years since we've visited. Last time I planned an afternoon visit after the school children are gone, but based on my quick research, February isn't usually a popular time for school trips so I'm going to chance a morning visit!
If you want to carpool or caravan from Rowlett, meet at the Rowlett DART Station parking lot in the area of Martin and Industrial at 9:00 am. If you want to meet at the zoo, let's shoot for 10:15-10:30 at the front gate. The address for the zoo is 1989 Colonial Parkway; Fort Worth. Admission is $16 for seniors (65+) and $20 for adults; parking is $5/car - tickets can be purchased ahead online or at the gate.
For lunch, we will head over to Tommy's Hamburger Grill & Patio at 2455 Forest Park Blvd., just a short distance from the zoo. I'm going to allow 3 hours to tour the zoo or until everyone shows back up at the entrance. Therefore, lunch could be on the late side - 1:30 or so timeframe - so eat a big breakfast and/or bring or buy a snack to tide you over.
It is possible to get your hand stamped and return to the zoo, so anyone who wanted to do that certainly could if you don't get a chance to see everything. There are also restaurants inside the zoo, but not sure how good they are. However, if the majority would prefer to eat earlier at a zoo restaurant, we could certainly do that. We will decide when we all arrive.
I would bring a telephoto lens, if you have one, instead of or in addition to your regular walkaround lens.

Now, for some requests and warnings:
1. Weather is always a factor, especially in winter, so there is always the possibility of a last minute cancellation!
2. Please don't sign up unless you intend to go, and, if you find you aren't able to go after signing up, please change your RSVP so we aren't waiting for you.
3. Please sign up if you are going so that we know to expect and wait for you.
4. Please comment whether you will meet in Rowlett or at the zoo so we know where to look for you.
5. Please comment as to whether you need a ride or can provide a ride so we can try and accommodate everyone.
Hope the weather and school bus gods bless on this planned outing!
